Working Out (Dumbbell Question)?

I am a pretty fit guy, but definitely not muscular. I am on a mission to get ripped, but I need the proper tools. I don’t have much money and I don’t want to go to the gym, so I am going to need something cheap that I can use at home.

As far as I’m aware, I can pretty much get a full body workout with just dumbbells and a bench (does the bench need to be adjustable?)

So, what I need are dumbbells in the range of about 3-20 pounds or so. I am considering purchasing this:

However, I was wondering if there is a better/cheaper solution. If so, can you please tell me where and what I need to get. Also, if you have any cheap bench recommendations that would be awsome.

Thank you so much!

*by the way I already have an exercise bike and exercise ball

If you dont want to buy dumbells yet you can start by working out with your body weight. What i mean by this is that you can begin by doing push ups at home. If you have never done it before it might be a little hard, and you might get sore the next day or two. You can start with 15 push ups, and the increase by 5 every day twice a day. The trick is not how much you do, but how many you do correctly. If you do them correctly, you will see result faster.
And lastly before you start lifting weight talk to an expert because it is easy to get hurt, and you wont get what you want in the first place (muscular)
    Good luck.

shop garage sales or look in the newspaper for used weights and dumbells. I’ve heard the larger bowflex dumbells are a little wkward to use- I don’t know about the smaller ones.
You can make a flat bench out of 2 by 4’s and plywood.
You don’t really need to incline, and you definitely don’t need to decline to work all the muscles.

An adjustable bench is more versatile than a plain flat one, but all I ever had was plain flat.

I’d get dumbbell bars and removable weights–more versatile than fixed-weight dumbbells. Plus, you can get a weight bar and use the same weights there, too.

Ok…first of all let’s look at the bench situation. Yes you will want it to be adjustable but you will not have to spend money on one. Simply get some solid blocks of wood or something similiar so you can place one end of the bench on it which turns it into an incline and a decline bench. As for the dumbbells and a full body workout, yes, you are right. In fact dumbbells are better because you get a fuller range of motion which means you will recruit more muscle fibres. And the last part of your enquiry being a cheaper/better solution…well this will be a supplement to what you already have being find a local play park with all the trimmings ie, monkey bars, confidence course, rock climbing wall etc and use these things to build your back (monkey bars for chins), chest (dips using side rails) etc.

And don’t forget there are also push ups and other bodyweight exercises that people just forget about.
